Humbuckers modern output

The Scrapyard Dog PLUS   Builds on the ethos of the scrapyard Dog orignal: Singing sustain with a crisp raw edge but with a higher output of 10.5k neck and 12k (average) bridge. Alnico 5 magnets, nickel silver base plates. Happy to metal it up with the best of them ... but still subtle enough for blues.

For quite some time enterprising DIY modifiers have been splicing the DNA of mild mannered PAF style pickups to that of monster hi output pickups … to create half and half, best of both worlds hybrids.

This pickup is designed like that from the outset! It uses radically asymmetric  coils create a harmonically rich and punchy end result. Never clogged or muddy and with string definition and almost single coil like top end  responsiveness

Especially good on darker sounding guitars or used in HsH or Hss combinations. Bridge 11k neck 8.9k. Magnets alnico 5

Available with double row hex-bolt poles or in standard ‘slug and screw’ disguise! It’s Alive!

CREATURE

SCRAPYARD DOG PLUS

For some time customers had been asking me to come up with a humbucker to exploit the smooth, well balanced characteristics of alnico 4 magnets.

Here’s the result: around 13k  bridge version, and 9k neck, the NightFighter is adequately powerful but brilliantly well balanced, without any unpleasant screech at the top end, a well behaved middle, and a tight bass. Low string pull from the alnico 4 magnets helps that long singing sustain.

Available short leg only but with the option of triangular mounting lugs for guitars with straight to body mounting. Four conductor wiring only.

NIGHTFIGHTER Alnico IV

Tokaido Bullet

Back in the seventies Japanese technology came up with a new sort of humbucker, a pickup that has become a legend, and sought after for its cutting power, it’s subtlety and it’s unexpected power. The original was named after the ‘super’ decade it was conceived in, and this pickup has been transplanted into many an American LP style guitar for it’s clarity and bite … especially in the neck position.

My homage to that pickup is the ‘Tokaido Bullet’

Powered by a rough cast alnico 8 magnet for raw power, it has a slightly beefed up symmetrical PAF style wind for subtlety combined with ‘grunt’.

neck 7.7k bridge 8.5k   (average)

Smooth and powerful, the Nightfighter Custom  adds another flavour to the original Nightfighter recipe that really pushes those mids to tame overly bright guitars, or simply add an extra creamy, throaty voice to your lead or rhythm playing.

ERUPTION

You probably don't need too much introduction to this one.

An overwound hot-rod of a pickup - where the mids are nice and fat, yet the top end and bottom end also stand out.

Sounding like a blend of humbucker and single coil for a tone as brown as they come.

42 gauge wire Alnico 5 magnets.

BLACKBIRD

The Blackbird was developed with the input of Doug Campbell of Black Machine Guitars to produce a clear and string defined medium/high output pickup, specifically for the more technical forms of metal.

Super rich clean tones with superb harmonic complexity that keep their clarity up to very high gain levels. A very special set for the most demanding players. Available in 7 and 8 string to special order

Alnico 4 neck and alnico 5 bridge 9.7k and 13k respectively (six string versions)

Blackbird ‘Ulfberht’

After a customer request for a ceramic powered Blackbird we came up with this …

Wound a fraction hotter at the bridge, and with a bit more bite and scoop in the neck This pickup set suits more brutal rhythm work and even higher gain sounds … but still keeps the clarity the Blackbird is noted for.
