Here’s the classic ‘last of the line’, sixties ‘pre CBS’ pickup … lovingly recreated after rewinding lots of examples and gleaning all the measurements and info from the real thing … on our workbench.
Wound with classic ‘Heavy Formvar’ wire, staggered poles, black flatwork to 5.6k and boasting hand bevelled and polished magnets. This is the crisp, woody tone familiar on so many recordings. Powered by alnico 5, this is the spirit of the early sixties: clarity with more top end ‘zing’ than later plain enamel wound incarnations.
Bridge slightly over-wound for balance.
